Once upon a time, a man named David Howe acquired some big artworks. They were really big- much too big to go in an apartment. And they were fun- or they could be, but there was no space large enough for people to see and enjoy them. He needed somewhere to show them, so he rented an empty studio space in Chelsea, and 601Artspace was born.
601Artspace has evolved a lot since then. Sometimes we show works from our collection, and sometimes we show a huge variety of artworks from various sources, and nearly all the time we showcase ambitious exhibitions by a wide range of curators and artists. But this summer, we return to our roots and harness the oversized founding spirit of 601 to bring you BIG FUN, an exhibition of works so large that they rarely see the light of day, along with some small fun works for contrast and sparkle. We’re excited to see all of them, and to share them with you.
