Birdsong, 2019, single channel digital video, running time 00:09:10

Birdsong is a video composed of footage of a pond near the house I grew up in, overlaid with text reflecting on some of the mechanics of memory rhythmically interrupted by a somewhat light-hearted narrative in which the narrator fails to remember something. Now, a year since I made this, memory and place feel different to me. Routine is dissolving, and physical distance, once a temporary respite from the day-to-day, has become the day-to-day for many. Initially, I thought of this in terms of how a mind can wander, and today I think of it in terms of how the mind must wander when the body should not.
