Sometimes we only discover where we are by brushing up against where we are not--or where we are not supposed to be. These realizations can be unnerving, violent, groundbreaking. Starting from my childhood memories, these collages are an inquiry into who has historically been permitted to take up space. This image came to mind because it reminds me of human contact I took for granted. However, it also reminds me that having space to be socially distant is a privilege.
